ABOUT THE PLAN

An insurance plan established in conjunction with the District Health Boards (DHBs) of New Zealand offering voluntary group insurance for eligible employees.

Options

You can choose to take a Life Insurance policy only or all of the three products. Note that Trauma Insurance and Income Protection Insurance can only be selected with a Life Insurance Plan.

Eligibility

You must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You are either a permanent employee or on a fixed term contract of 12 months or more at the date of applying for the insurance cover
  • Work 15 hours or more per week at the DHB
  • Be aged between 16-64 years

New Employees

Eligible new employees can apply to join the Plan within 75 days of commencing employment at the DHB, subject to five health questions.

Existing Employees

Eligible existing employees can also apply to join the Plan at any time, subject to full medical underwriting and acceptance by the insurer.

If the insurer offers a designated 30 day offer window, eligible existing employees (not currently members of the Plan, have previously applied or had their application deferred), can apply for the cover subject to five health questions.

Employee’s Spouses

Eligible employee’s spouses can also apply to join the Plan at any time provided the employee is also a member of the Plan, subject to full medical underwriting and acceptance by the insurer.

Plan Renewal Date

Please refer to the Plan policy documents to obtain the annual renewal date. 

Change in Circumstances

Please contact Mercer Marsh Benefits immediately if you no longer meet the plan eligibility – work less than 15 hours per week, reached aged 70  (life cover) reached aged 65 (income protection and trauma cover) or your employment terms have changed.

It is your responsibility to notify Mercer Marsh Benefits if your circumstances change.
